Maintaining Independence While in Assisted Living
At Melrose Meadows, our top priority is caring for our residents while helping them maintain as much independence as possible. That’s why we believe in self-directed care that allows our residents to get the care they need without having unnecessary assistance imposed on them.
Below are the different ways assisted living community residents can maintain their independence while receiving the assistance they need.
Home
At many assisted living communities, residents have the chance to completely personalize their spaces. From art on the wall to welcome mats in the doorway, your new home is your home and should reflect that. No sterile hospital beds with scratchy sheets here!
At Melrose Meadows, we also offer other ways to keep your home yours, such as a gardening area outside each apartment, a welcoming attitude toward pets and a staff policy of always knocking before entering your apartment.
Dining Style
Moving into an assisted living community can rid you of the chore of cooking dinner. But that shouldn’t mean sacrificing independence and quality at mealtimes. At Melrose Meadows, we cater to our residents with options for each meal, a menu that rotates monthly, and no assigned seating.
Social Life
One of the best ways to maintain your independence while in assisted living is through your social life. From customized health and wellness programming to a slew of social activities, assisted living residents can enjoy an active social life. At Melrose Meadows, all programs are open to both independent and assisted living residents.
In addition to scheduled activities, assisted living community residents often enjoy recreational facilities such as a gyms, pools, libraries and game/social rooms. Melrose residents, both in independent and assisted living, have access to and can reserve common areas for their visitors. Our residents are also free to come and go as they wish.
Transportation
Many assisted living residents hate to rely on family members for transportation to appointments and other engagements. Melrose Meadows’ free scheduled transportation services are a great way to maintain independence and get out and about within the community. For residents that still drive, Melrose Meadows also offers heated underground parking spaces.
Pricing Structure
Pricing structure may not seem directly related to maintaining independence in an assisted living community. But make no mistake, it can greatly influence a resident’s lifestyle. Many assisted living communities charge per level of care, which can result in residents being reluctant to ask for help when they need it for fear of the toll on their bank account. At Melrose Meadows, our pricing is all-inclusive. Three meals per day, all utilities plus basic cable (excluding phone and internet), weekly housekeeping and laundry services, and all personal cares are included in the rent. It’s just one more way we help our assisted living residents enjoy more and worry less.
